The reporter learned on the 24th of the opening ceremony of China’s first national art market legal week that was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture, and the China Auction Industry Association in Wuhan. In 2011, the total turnover of the Chinese art market reached 210.8 billion yuan. The turnover of art auction market was 97.5 billion yuan, and the transaction volume of galleries, art brokers and art fairs was 35.1 billion yuan. At the same time, some long-standing problems have emerged. The imperfections in the legal system of the art market and the lack of supervision have greatly constrained the healthy development of the art market. This year, the Ministry of Culture will work with the Ministry of Commerce and other departments to jointly carry out special rectification work on violations of laws and regulations in art auctions and further crack down on chaos in the auction market.
According to the deputy director of the Cultural Market Department of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Zhai Zuhai, the first National Legal Market Legal Awareness Week will be held in Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hubei, Inner Mongolia, Tibet and other provinces, with special lectures, public exhibitions, volunteer consultations, and media promotions. Various ways, such as promoting the legal system of the art market, introducing appreciation of the knowledge and methods of identifying artworks, guiding consumers to purchase rationally and protecting their rights in accordance with the law.
