Hello everyone,
I hope this message finds you well. Life has its own rhythm, doesn't it? Sometimes, after finishing one project, there’s this moment where you just need a small break to reset your mind before jumping into the next one. For me, that often happens with sewing. Right now, while spring patterns are at the printer, it feels like the perfect time to shift gears and design for next fall. But before fully immersing myself in the upcoming season, I love taking a little detour and creating something just for fun.
Recently, I stumbled upon a heavier twill rayon/viscose fabric and had been itching to experiment with it. The Saint Germain Wrap Dress caught my eye, and I thought it would be interesting to see how it played with the City Stroll Wrap Skirt. Given my preference for pencil skirts, I decided to merge the two patterns. The City Stroll’s pockets were an added bonus—such a practical touch!
When I sewed the size 6 pieces together, everything aligned beautifully. I didn’t have to make many adjustments, which was surprising but delightful. To keep things simple, I opted for hooks and eyes instead of buttons for the closures. Then, out of nowhere, I felt the urge to add a belt. Luckily, the one from the Terrace Dress worked perfectly!
I made a few tweaks to the City Stroll pattern, straightening the front edges to create a straight hem and adding about six inches to bring the skirt below the knee. The fabric’s drape paired seamlessly with the Saint Germain’s design, requiring no further modifications. The final result is both easygoing and elegant—a true testament to how enjoyable sewing can be when approached without pressure.
The dress fits wonderfully and is incredibly versatile. Whether I wear it with the belt or without, it feels comfortable and polished. Plus, the fabric is relatively wrinkle-resistant, making it perfect for everyday wear. I’m thrilled with how it turned out and already envision wearing it on countless occasions.
As much as I enjoyed this creative side project, I’m equally excited to dive back into designing for fall. Spring patterns will be available soon—less than a month away! I can’t wait to share them with you.
In the meantime, if you're looking for something to refresh your wardrobe or spark some sewing inspiration, why not try a small project just for fun? It’s amazing how such a simple act can reignite your passion.
Take care, and happy sewing!
Warm regards,
Liesl
