Yesterday, the Donghu Hotel in Wuhan welcomed a group of distinguished guests: photographer Qian Qianjie, guardian Zhou Fuming, Tian Yunjun, and life administrator Wu Liandeng, all of whom had worked closely with Chairman Mao Zedong. Qian Qianjie generously donated 170 previously unpublished photographs capturing the **campaign in Han**—a rare glimpse into a pivotal moment in history. According to historical records, Chairman Mao stayed at the Donghu Hotel a total of 44 times throughout his life, making it the place where he spent the most time outside of Zhongnanhai. Most of the photos donated by Qian Qianjie were taken during his stays at the hotel, while a few were captured along the Yangtze River and the shores of East Lake. In addition to daily life scenes, the collection includes rare images of foreign visitors who were not widely known at the time. Earlier this year, 82-year-old Qian Qianjie had already donated 85 photographs to the Donghu Hotel. This time, after carefully reviewing thousands of photos taken during Mao's travels, he chose to donate all images related to his activities in Wuhan. Wu Yong, the general manager of the East Lake Hotel, stated that these precious photos will be preserved permanently and some will be displayed in the former residence of Chairman Mao, offering future generations a deeper connection to history. It was also reported that there had been an attempt by Hong Kong media to purchase photo negatives of Mao Zedong for 180,000 Hong Kong dollars, but the deal ultimately failed. As a personal guardian of Chairman Mao, Tian Yunjun also donated some handwritten notes and envelopes that he had used during his time working with the leader. This visit to the East Lake Hotel, where Mao once stayed, brought back many memories for the elderly guests. They expressed how much Hubei has changed over the years. The hotel itself is now beautifully restored, and some of the areas around it are almost unrecognizable from what they once were.
