It’s not a whimsical British scientist who turns tea into fabric

British scientists have cultivated a new type of fabric from a tea vat, which is now considered a new fabric in the fashion industry. Fashion designers and scientists planted a new type of fabric in a tea vat that has a leather feel but is very lightweight and has been used to make shirts, jackets, skirts, and even shoes.

Scientists at Imperial College London worked closely with fashion designers at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London to develop fabrics that could be used in the fashion industry.

According to them, this new and sustainable fabric will gradually become an important fabric in the garment industry, as the resources of conventional textiles are becoming more and more tense, such as cotton, wool and leather, the greater the demand for fabrics and the tighter the resources.

This innovative fabric grows in a mixture of green tea, sugar and other nutrients and takes many days to grow. The scientists put the bacteria into the mixture nutrient soup, and then grow long cellulose fibers, which are gathered together to form a thin film of fabric that floats on the surface of the mixture solution.

After drying, these films turn into a transparent fabric that looks like a transparent straw paper. However, the transparent grass paper can be further processed, dyed, and molded to give it a different feel and appearance.
