What is quartzite jade?

Quartzite jade is a dense block composed of granular quartz aggregates with a quartz content of over 90%. In addition to the main component of the stone, it also often contains minerals such as chrome mica, sericite, lithium mica, hematite, and blue amphibole. When pure, the quartzite is white, with a hardness of 7, a density of about 2.65, and a glass luster.

Quartz is one of the types of silicon oxides, and its trigonal system. Translucent or opaque crystals; crystals with different colors, colorless and transparent crystals, milky white called quartz, light red called rose quartz, purple amethyst or purple gems, yellowish brown Crystal, tea crystal, green called emerald, black is called crystal.

Quartz is the second most abundant ore in the continental crust, second only to feldspar, and its texture is hard. It is the main component of granite. It is the only one of the more than ten kinds of natural isomers of SiO? which is stable under normal temperature and pressure.

Quartz has many variations, and it is squeezed through the crustal movement to form a small amount of precious stones. Especially in Europe and the Middle East, quartz has been widely used in jewelry and hard stone carving since ancient times.

The texture and color of quartzite jade often have different characteristics in different places of production. According to the place of origin, it is divided into the following varieties:

Jingbaiyu

It is a dense quartz stone with pure white color and fine texture. It was named after the discovery of the Xishan area in Beijing in the 1960s. Later, similar white quartzite was found in Hunan and other places. In order to unify the name, some experts suggested using the name "Crystal White Jade" to show the characteristics of quartz, including white quartzite jade produced in various places.

Jingbaiyu is a relatively pure quartzite with a content of more than 95% quartz (SiO2), uniform color, generally pure white, sometimes with a bluish, slightly green or gray hue, no impurities. Quartz particles are fine and generally have a particle size of less than 0.2 mm. The texture is fine and slightly transparent. Good quality, polished white as a sheep fat jade, but not as good as the fat jade, and the crispness of the sheep fat jade.

Miyu

Named after it was produced in Mi County, Henan Province, it is also known as "Mixian Jade", "Henan Jade" and "Henan Cui". The quartz particles in Mishan jade are very small, so that it is difficult for the naked eye to recognize, so it is delicate as nephrite. Often slightly transparent to translucent. The color of the jade is mainly green and orange, but the main color is green. Its green color is usually apple green, darker than jasper, darker than jade green, and often has a change in color depth, that is, with the distribution of green scaly sericite, showing a change in green shade. When there is no or little sericite, the jade is white. Usually the green color of the jade is lighter than the green color of the dark green tomb.

Guicui

Produced in the big factory of Jinglong County, Guizhou Province. It is a fine-grained quartzite containing kaolinite. It is mainly in light green with blue-gray tone, and also sees green, so it is called Guigui, also known as "Guizhou jade." There are also varieties such as grayish yellow and red. The green color of Guicui is due to the green kaolinite contained in it, so the color is not as bright as the stone and dense jade, and there is no scaly flash. The kaolinite is unevenly distributed, so the color of the precious green is also uneven. There are many sand holes in the texture. The sand holes contain soft minerals such as fluorite, calcite, cloud cream, etc., which affect the uniformity of jade. After polishing, it causes gloss difference, uneven brightness and affects the appearance. Guicui is usually opaque.

Xincui

Produced in the mountains of Myitkyina in Myanmar, the mine is located in the mountainside of more than 2,000 meters above sea level. It is famous for its Burma mining area. The material is often green or white-green. Between 2.0 and 2.3, the Moby's hardness is around 6. The jade material itself is relatively transparent. Because it is produced in Myanmar and is close to the jadeite production area, it has been mixed with jade ice species for sale at high prices. However, due to geological relationship, the density and hardness of this stone material is not as good as that of the old pit, and the color is mostly Purple, light green, yellow, dark blue, etc. in the jade processing base commonly known as "new pit jade" (Xin Cui), more processed into small jade jewelry such as bracelets, pendants, etc., cost-effective, but the appreciation space is not large, no Very high collection value. The color of jade material is relatively uniform, and the structure of jade particles is relatively obvious. Compared with the old pit jade, the jade particles are larger and the structure is relatively loose, and the internal quartz is spot-shaped astigmatism. After the finished product is polished, the scattered flash point can be seen in the sunlight. Therefore, it is very different from the authentic ice species or the ice jadeite jade. It has been unable to produce a jade certificate because of the large differences in texture and sub-genus. Later, it was jointly determined by many authoritative organizations that it should belong to quartzite jade instead of the true jadeite. .

Dongling Stone

Originally referred to as a kind of green quartzite jade produced in India, it is also called: "Indian jade". Because the jade contains silk-like green chrome mica scales, the Dongling stone has a star-like brilliance, and the color is bright, green or blue-green, very beautiful.

In fact, today's "Dongling Stone" does not refer only to the green chrome mica quartzite produced in India. Quartzite, which contains color minerals and is beautiful in color and has an unknown origin, is often called Dongling Stone. Thus there are green Dongling Stone, Blue Dongling Stone, Red Eastern Tombstone, and Purple Dongling Stone. The narrow "Dongling Stone" refers to green chrome mica quartzite jade.

Tianshan White Jade

Produced from the Tianshan Mountains, it belongs to the quartzite and is also called Tianshan Baiyu. Its hardness is 6.5. The jade is beautiful, acid and alkali resistant, not afraid of sweat, white and beautiful, suitable for Buddha sculpture and pendant bracelet. Because of the origin of Xinjiang, Xinjiang is also called white jade.

It was discovered in the Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang in the 1980s. Because this area is located in the Tianshan Mountains, the quartzite jade produced in this area is also known as Tianshan Ice Jade or Tianshan White Jade.

After testing by the Guangdong Jewelry Quality Inspection Center, the temperature of Tianshan Bingyu is almost close to Hetian jade, and the degree of transparency is close to Myanmar ice species and even glass. High-quality ice jade, its whiteness and crystal brightness can be seen under the sunlight, the refractive index is about 1.54. The hardness also reached about 7.0. There are few flaws and cracks.

Many jade players will think that they are the common creature of Burmese jade, the water-foam jade, but it is not. The water-foam jade is very brittle and not soft enough, although it is also very transparent in texture. However, it is always impossible to keep up with the good Tianshan ice jade, and the original stone or the finished product can be distinguished.

Due to the gradual depletion of Burmese jade veins and the decline of white jade production in Hetian area, Huanglongyu's hype gradually subsided; with the deep excavation of the market and the continuous production of the outstanding works of the masters of ice jade carving, Tianshan Bingyu has gradually become a new star in the Chinese jade market.

Other varieties

Taiwan Cui: It is a blue quartzite named after the province of Taiwan.

佘太翠: It is a kind of green quartzite containing muscovite and sericite. It is named after it is produced near the town of Wutai, Wulat Qianqi, Inner Mongolia.

Lang Yayu: It is a kind of quartz quartz with grayish white and brown. Produced in Yucheng County, Shandong Province.

Cinnabar jade: It is a quartz vein containing cinnabar. Because the cinnabar is very fine and evenly distributed in the quartz vein, the jade is a delicate purple-red bright red block. Hardness 7, density is greater than 3 due to the inclusion of cinnabar. More opaque. Can be used for jewelry and jade carving crafts. Cinnabar jade is also known as "peony jade".

South African Emerald: A green quartzite jade, named after its origin in South Africa. The texture is round and sleek, and the best emerald can be gem-fluorescent.
