In the future, our shoes and clothes may become powerful smart devices. In fact, Levi's and Google have cooperated to launch a smart jacket. After two years of testing, this smart jacket is finally officially released. The smart jacket is priced at $350.

Smart fabrics are a relatively new and popular area, but now, some scientists have quickly created a smart fabric that easily overcomes this jacket. The biggest feature of this fabric is its ability to store data.

Computer scientists at the University of Washington detailed their application of a new type of smart fabric. This new type of textile can store information without the need for additional sensors or electronics and take gesture recognition to a whole new level.

In order to store information, a magnetization line is divided into a plurality of units. Each cell is then encoded by a polarization unit having a north or south magnetic field, corresponding to 1 or 0 bits, respectively. The peaks can be clearly read by simply sweeping the magnetic strip on the magnetometer of the smartphone. That said, the fabric is like a mobile hard drive, and you actually store the data on the clothes you wear, which sounds cool.

The smart jacket launched by Google and Levi's can only be cleaned 10 times. Well, it seems that in order to extend its use time, even if the clothes have an unspeakable smell, we sometimes have to hold back. But this fabric is more durable, it can be washed in a washing machine or dried in a dryer, even at temperatures up to 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Durability tests have shown that any change in the magnetic field can be compared to natural reading fluctuations even when washing, drying or ironing. Although the fabric may lose its magnetic signal, it can easily be re-magnetized and reprogrammed multiple times.

In terms of gesture recognition, scientists have also developed a glove with a magnetized wire that can recognize gestures in real time. This is similar to the functionality of Google and Levi's smart jackets - just a touch-sensitive cuff or a smart tag.

I have to say that in the near future, the mobile phones we have in our hands, the watches worn on our wrists, the glasses we wear, the gloves on our hands, the shoes we wear under our feet, and the clothes we wear, will all be "smart." "This future, are you looking forward to it?"
